Personality:

Sam Winchester has not wanted anything more than he’s wanted to be normal.

Unfortunately for him, he is anything but.

On the surface, it might appear to the casual passerby that he really is quite normal. Highly educated and intelligent, perhaps, a little awkward when it comes to some kinds of social interactions, and taller than pretty much anyone else in the room, but looking at him wouldn’t immediately send any signals that he’s anything but a tall and attractive guy.

And those are the pieces of his personality that he wants people to see.

Unfortunately, the truth of Sam is darker, violent, troubled. He’s spent literally almost his entire life on the road, lied to by his father for the first handful of years until his brother tells him the truth about how their father hunts the monsters that hide under your bed and in your closet.

And then he has to learn how to fight them, kill them, and try not to die in the process, all in a lifelong quest to find the demon that took his mother from their family.

It’s not a fair life, and it’s one that Sam never wanted nor asked for. It’s a life that he deliberately left behind, along with the only two blood relatives that remained, in a vain attempt to be what he did want. Normal.

His past came back to haunt him, as it tends to do.

Sam Winchester is a brilliant man. Despite moving from place to place and school to school, he still learned at a rapid pace. His departure from his father and brother took him to college where he planned to go to law school, scoring a near perfect on his LSATs. His ability to research is staggering, which continuously comes in handy during the hunts that the brother’s go on. He also will randomly pull out tidbits of information about various subjects off the top of his head, which insinuates that he is something of a mental sponge, able to hold on to all kind of information quickly over long periods of time.

Given the opportunity, he would be almost guaranteed to be successful, but life didn’t pan out that way.

Instead, he was dragged back into hunting by his brother after his father went missing. Dean is a person that Sam would do anything for. He’s more than just his brother, he’s the person he’s been closest to over the course of his life, someone he constantly looked up to and depended on. Dean essentially acted as his guardian figure, despite only being a handful of years older, due to their father’s frequent monster hunts, and that’s something that leaves a lifelong impression.

There is nothing Sam wouldn’t do for Dean. Nothing.

But Sam and his brother are very different people. While Dean idolized their father, Sam rebelled against him, though that was in part because they were so similar. Their father’s thirst for revenge and Sam’s own darkness clashed, their stubbornness keeping them at odds. Sam wasn’t content with just following orders the way Dean was, which put a wedge between them.

That isn’t to say that Sam didn’t love his father. He simply didn’t want to follow him blindly the same way Dean did. It made Sam out to be the ‘bad son,’ which only further fueled the anger in his gut.

Even with their father now gone, Sam and Dean are often at odds due to their differing personalities and opinions on how they should go about doing things. Despite how much he cares about his brother, he also often feels that he’s constantly not allowed to truly ‘grow up’ and that he’ll always be a kid in Dean’s eyes.

Sam has the tendency to run on this anger, using it to fuel his motivations and direct his life, even as he tries to deny it. He wants desperately to be good, to do what’s right, but even before he discovers anything concrete about his abilities, he seems to know there’s something ‘off’ about himself. The visions he has make him feel like a freak, and the addition of other abilities along with the knowledge that there are others like him with powers he could potentially unlock only makes these feelings worse. Dean’s reactions to them don’t help either, as his brother’s attitude towards him matters more than anyone else’s.

He also has the tendency to sometimes make impulsive decisions, especially when he thinks his brother won’t approve of them or Dean’s life is the one at risk, even though he usually wants to go into a situation with a plan.

Despite his desperate desire to be normal and have a normal life, Sam has accepted that this isn’t something his life is ever going to be. He’s in too deep, and trying to get out only got people hurt and killed, and he knows he’s good at what he does. Even without the hunting, he knows there’s a part of him that enjoys what he does, and if there’s one thing he can’t ever really escape from, it’s himself.

Powers/Abilities:

Sam has several abilities that were given to him due to the fact that he consumed demon blood as an infant. The abilities were enhanced by drinking more demon blood later in life, though it was said that he didn’t require them to be used. Instead, they made his body stronger in preparation for Lucifer to use him as a vessel. His abilities were as follows:

Premonitions - Sam would have visions, both while asleep and awake, showing him the future. These visions would give him headaches and feel incredibly real and intense.

Telekinesis - Sam could move objects with his mind, including objects that were very heavy.

Supernatural Sixth Sense - Sam could sometimes sense when an unseen supernatural force was nearby, such as a ghost.

Immunity to Demonic Attacks - this included a disease of demonic origin that created zombies.

Exorcisms/Torture - Sam could mentally torture and cause pain. Though this was only shown on demons, it’s unclear if he could have used it on other forms as well. He could also send demons back to Hell with his mind, and eventually even destroy them completely.

After throwing himself/Lucifer and Adam/Michael into the cage and afterwards escaping, none of these abilities are ever used again.

Even without the hunting, he knows there’s a part of him that enjoys what he does, and if there’s one thing he can’t ever really escape from, it’s himself.

This is only further proven after the nature of his and his brother’s existence is slowly revealed. His own death and revival leaves him a different person, but what really begins to change Sam is his brother’s death. He’s forced to figure out how to live and hunt entirely without him, and that has Sam going to lengths that would seem unnatural and perhaps even evil to other hunters.

His relationship with Ruby, a demon, separates him from his brother even further when he’s rescued from Hell. He awakens his supernatural abilities to surprising levels through the consumption of her blood, though it starts to give him demonic properties in the process, and it’s confirmed later that it was all in order to make him a suitable vessel for Lucifer himself. With the knowledge that his entire life has been primed to set himself up against his brother, the true vessel for the Archangel Michael, Sam and Dean decide to screw fate and deal with the upcoming Apocalypse themselves.

Sam proves to be as self-sacrificing as we thought him to be. He proves this once and for all, making up for his mistakes by taking Lucifer inside himself and jumping into the Cage he’d been let out of, accepting an eternity of torture in exchange for saving the world from Heaven and Hell.

Being dragged out of Hell will leave Sam very frayed around the edges, and it will be awhile before he accepts Reality as truth instead of a hallucination forced upon him by Lucifer.

Matrix: History Wikia Link

Supernatural takes place in typical contemporary Earth, though as the name implies, there are a multitude of supernatural entities that live among humans. The vast majority of humanity is completely unaware of such things, even though they exist all over the place, generally causing havok and unexplainable phenomenon. Pretty much every story or piece of lore out there has some bit of reality to it, from vampires to werewolves to faeries. The old world gods and goddesses/pagan dieties are also real, or were at some point unless killed, such as Zeus, Kali, Odin, Vesta, etc. Angels, Demons, and Lucifer himself are all real, and the Winchesters encounter celestial and demonic entities on a regular basis.

Magic is also a reality in this world, practiced by witches, who are humans that generally step into something they think they can control but don’t entirely understand. Their magic is usually destructive in nature, focusing on hexes and curses. There are also practitioners of Hoo Doo, which can also be used to protect as well as harm.

Ghosts are somewhat common in this world, and nearly every ghost eventually becomes a vengeful spirit of some kind, and whatever bit of them remains in this world must be burned to put the ghost to rest.

The number of different kinds of supernatural creatures is nearly endless, and going through them all would take pages upon pages, so if it exists in some kind of text anywhere, it probably exists in their world. Nothing is impossible, as proven when dragons and unicorns showed up at one time or another.

Real World:

Sam will only be at the end of his second week of rehabilitation when the game begins. He’ll just be reaching some basic functionality, and will begin focusing on adjusting to his new life, starting with rebuilding his body. His large frame needs some muscle on it if he’s going to use it well at all, after all.

He’ll have spent most of his time so far questioning if everything around him is just a very elaborate trick of Lucifer’s, seeing as he’s been very creative with his tortures in the past.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Anomalies:
Sam has several abilities that were given him due to the fact that he consumed demon blood as an infant. The abilties were enhanced by drinking more demon blood later in life, though it was said that he didn’t require them to be used. Instead, they made his body stronger in preparation for Lucifer to use him as a vessel, though most of this doesn’t matter much in the context of the game.

Skillset:

-Basic martial arts/self defense/melee weapon use. Sam’s hand-to-hand abilities aren’t anything over the top impressive, but he can handle himself in a fight and does so over and over again.

-Ranged Weaponry. Sam has extensive knowledge and experience with many different types of guns/ranged weapons, though semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, and shotguns are the most common weapon type he’s used. He also knows how to make special ammo types, such as silver bullets and salt buckshot rounds.

-Lockpicking/Car Hotwiring

-Computer Use. Sam has a lot of experience with computers and computer systems. He has a decent amount of hacking experience. His specialt is in research, as he can locate very obscure pieces of information, given time. He’s also hacked into police reports and the like in order to work cases.

-Genius IQ. Sam is insanely intelligent, scoring incredibly high on his LSATs, despite having very little formal education before finagling himself into college at Stanford. He is very gifted and learning, understanding, and then absorbing information.

-Mechanical Repair. Sam had a good amount of experience with fixing and maintaining an automobile, and is also good at figuring out how things work because of his intelligence, so he makes a good handyman.

-Forgery. Sam and his brother have both made numerous fake IDs and badges that have fooled countless people, as well as committed credit card fraud an endless number of times.

Sam hasn’t been sure about what’s real and what’s not for awhile now.

Lucifer is nothing if not creative in his tortures, to say the least. Michael isn’t any better, when it comes to pain and suffering, but it’s always more straightforward. Lucifer toys with his mind, tries to give him hope and then take it away, make him feel vulnerable but the slightest bit optimistic before he brings the gavel down and takes it all away again.

So when the agents find him, he doesn’t believe it at first. Thinks it’s another trick, and why would he think anything else? He might have had some chance of escaping Hell, but nothing is going to get him out of Lucifer’s cage, deep down in the Pit where not even the worst of demons can reach.

In the grand scheme of things, it hasn’t even been that long yet, and he already feels like he’s been flayed alive more times than he can count, so when they offer him ‘reality’ during a strange moment of stillness they claim to have created, he can’t bring himself to even think that it might be true. It isn’t until they come back again, that the Pit pauses entirely around him, giving him yet another brief reprieve from everything that he finally decides to give in.

If he’s wrong, and he probably is, then Lucifer will just have won one more game. But if it’ll get him out of here?

He’d do pretty much anything at this point. No matter how ugly reality might be, if that’s what it truly is, then it can’t possibly be worse than this. And if they came for him?

Maybe they came for Dean, too.

History:

Sam Winchester was the second of two boys born to Mary and John Winchester on May 2nd, 1983. When he was six months old, a yellow-eyed demon by the name of Azazel stood over his crib in the middle of the night in order to feed him his demonic blood. When Mary interrupted this act, Azazel proceeded to slit open her belly, drag up up onto the ceiling, a light an inferno beneath her, which proceeds to start to engulf the house. John manages to get himself, Sam, and his brother Dean out of the house safely, but their mother is killed. It’s this night that sets them on the course that they’ll be on for the rest of their lives as their father swear vengeance on the creature that killed his wife.

Sam’s childhood is anything but normal. He and his brother live literally constantly on the road, sleeping in their father’s Impala or in cheap motel rooms every night. Sometimes, the two boys would be able to attend school for a couple of weeks while their father worked some kind of case or lead on their mother’s killer, only to be picked up and carted around the country again. Dean learns of their father’s real job at a young age, and is tasked with keep Sam safe, as he’s four years younger. It’s Dean who finally spills the beans to Sam about the nasties out there in the dark when he’s 8, and both boys are eventually taught about the life of a hunter as kids. This involved learning about all kinds of monsters, using the weapons that would target their weak spots, melting silver into bullets, and other things that children have no business doing. Sam was often tasked with doing the research necessary to take down specific monsters they came across, as he was younger and incredibly intelligent. Leaving him to do the research kept him safer than out there in the field where the action was happening.

It’s well established that Sam and his father didn’t get along, and there are many reasons for this, though inevitably their stubbornness and similarities result in Sam trying to cut ties at around 20 years old. His father told him to stay gone if he was going to leave, and so he did, enrolling at Stanford and spending two years in college. Considering he was taking LSATs at the end of those two years and preparing interviews for law school, it’s likely that he had sped through the curriculum and was going to graduate early. He was also living with his girlfriend, Jessica, whom he was very serious about.

Then Dean shows up, talks about how his father is missing, and drags him out on a hunt. When Sam makes Dean take him home when it’s over, he finds Jessica murdered in the same way his mother’s life was taken. Slit stomach, pinned to the ceiling, raging fire.

Dean doesn’t even have to convince him to drop everything to get back on the road. Sam simply tells his brother that they have work to do, a fire for revenge lit in his chest.

The majority of season one is spent fighting one terrible monster after another, a series of cases that the Winchester brothers run into in their search for a lead on the whereabouts of their father and the yellow-eyed demon. Sam has several instances of precognition, which all have to do with instances of people dying in ways similar to their mother or other children who were visited by Azazel at the age of six months. In addition, Sam also meets Meg, who he originally believes to be a wayward soul like himself (he had parted ways from Dean at the time), but turns out to be a demon tasked with watching Sam.

Eventually, Sam and Dean are reunited with their father, who tells them about a legendary gun made by Samuel Colt that can apparently kill anything. Throughout the series this weapon is simply knows as The Colt. The retrieve the weapon from a coven of vampires who’d killed its previous owner, and they intend to use it to kill Azazel for good. After a series of confrontations between both Azazel and Meg, John ends up possessed, telling Sam that he has plans for him “and all the other children like him.” John’s presence breaks through and tries to get Sam to kill him with the Colt, thus killing Azazel as well, but Sam can’t do it, and Azazel escapes. Shortly afterward, as they’re driving, they get into a massive vehicle collision caused by a demon at the wheel, causing the whole family massive injury.

With Dean’s injuries from the crash leaving his life hanging in the balance, John makes a Deal with Azazel, essentially trading his soul for Dean’s life, and John is dragged to Hell. His last words to Dean are to tell him to watch out for Sam, because if Sam can’t be saved, Dean will have to kill him. Neither of them know why this would be necessary, and a good amount of the season is dedicated to finding out more about the other psychic children and Azazel’s plans for them, and Sam becomes more serious about hunting as he believes that he needs to save as many people as possible to try and prevent himself from turning into whatever his father feared.

Eventually, Sam is kidnapped via teleportation and deposited in Cold Oak with several other of Azazel’s psychic children, where they are essentially forced into a duel to the death to decide who will be the last man standing. Apparently, whoever wins will be the one to lead a demon army on Earth. As Dean and Bobby show up to find Sam, he’s stabbed brutally in the back and is instantly killed by Jake, the last of the psychic children.

Dean is unable to let his brother go, and makes a deal with a Crossroads demon; he gets one year on earth before his soul is taken to Hell, and Sam comes back from the dead. The track down Jake, who manages to open up a Hell Gate with the Colt on Azazel’s orders, and Sam proceeds to brutally shoot him dead. Azazel taunts Dean, saying that Sam was his favorite and that what came back from the dead wasn’t 100 percent Sam. John’s spirit, after climbing through the Hell gate, helps Dean defeat Azazel, who gets shot with the last bullet from the Colt and killed.

Dean is confronted by Sam about what really happened, and Sam vows that he will do whatever it takes to save Dean’s soul from Hell, not to mention dealing with the giant mass of demons that were able to escape from Hell.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

-Premonitions/Visions/Divination: This ability goes dormant after the death of Azazel.
-Telekinesis: Sam has been shown to be able to move objects with his mind under emotional duress even without practice.
-Supernatural Sixth Sense/Sensing Unseen Spirits: Sam is sometimes able to sense when spirits are nearby without EMF, though it’s not often brought up.
-Immunity to Demonic Attacks
-Demonic Torture/Exorcisms: In later seasons, Sam can send demons back to Hell with his mind, as well as cause them physical pain and, eventually, complete death.

Examples of several of these manifesting occur mostly after his current canon point, though he’s perfectly capable of them regardless. The last of these, however, would require teaching and consuming demon blood to use. He has these due to the fact that Azazel fed him his demonic blood as an infant.

Sam is also a literal genius. His IQ is likely very high, and he posted a nearly perfect score on his LSATs. He seems to be able to pull out insane amounts of knowledge out of his ass on a regular basis. In addition, he has a dozen or so years of hunting training and experience, though he took a few years off to go to college.

Other tricks he’s picked up along the way include lockpicking and forgery.

He knew he wasn't supposed to wander around, had heard that is was easy to get confused and turned around, but curiosity had gotten the better of him.

Sam Winchester was very, very lost.

He wasn't one to simply walk forever, but an attempted call to one of his friends had turned up nothing but static, whatever signal he should have had either blocked or on the fritz out here in these endless hallways. Each time he thought he might see something familiar, it only turned into another set of passageways that led seemingly to nowhere, and sometimes he was sure he was going around in circles.

"Hello?"

He called out to no one in particular, the smallest shred of hope lingering inside that someone might answer, but all that returned his greeting was silence. He began to move again, eyes sharp for anything strange that might be prowling around out here beyond the more civilized areas, when he passed a strange but broken contraption, one that he has already passed a half a dozen times.

Sam ran a hand through his shaggy hair, sighing in both frustration and exhaustion.

"Damn it."

Space ships were most definitely not his friend. So much for that map he'd wanted to make.

Comms Sample:

Um, hi. My name is Sam Winchester, and I happen to be what you might call new around here.

[The greeting is somewhat awkward, though friendly enough as he gives the screen a half-hearted smile.]

I have to admit, aliens and space travel are a little bit outside of my realm of expertise.

[Sam is sitting down, his laptop off to the side. He’s been taking notes during his time here, trying to keep track of everything he can, hoping to make sense of it all.]

I don’t know if anyone else has collected information about this place, maybe even mapped out the layout or looked at the captain’s logs, but I think if we could share that with one another, maybe compile it, we might get a better understanding of what’s going on around here.

So, yeah, thanks in advance.
